Raquel Eddy recovered from the virus

Another member of the Eddy family (Bill and Marie Eddy on Lockdown), Raquel, 21 years old, also became ill with Covid-19 and is now fully recovered. She talks about her experience and how she and her sister knew that God was with them.

When I first felt ill I didn’t think it was anything serious, much less Covid-19. I just felt weak, but that happens to me quite often. I live in Madrid, but about ten days before I had gone up to Vigo, in the north of Spain, to be with my sister, brother-in-law and niece.

However, the days went by and the pressure in my chest was getting worse, and more and more members of the family had tested positive for the virus. That’s when I started to think that I had caught it.

I remember one evening when my sister brought my supper to my bedroom and found a feather on the floor next to the bed. We thought it was odd and laughed as my mother is obsessed (in a good way) with feathers. For years, whenever she sees a feather, she is reminded of the verse in Psalm 91:3-5

“He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

Psalm 91:4

My sister gave me the feather, but neither of us thought any more of it at the time. It wasn’t until two days later, when I got worse, that it made sense.

I woke up in the early hours of the morning and could not stop vomiting. We phoned the health service and they told us to go to the ER. Once there, because of the strict isolation measures in force, patients cannot have anyone accompanying them. So I went in alone and my sister had to wait for hours on her own in the car.

One of the times that she went in to ask if there was any news about me, nobody could tell her anything, but she overheard that someone there had tested positive. As she didn’t know anything about how I was and had only heard about someone having the virus, she was anxious. Then she remembered the feather, and she knew that God was telling her that everything would be alright.

When I was discharged, she shared that moment with me. It did me good to remember the many other times that God had taken care of me and I knew that He would on this occasion too. We had His promise and proof of it.

He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge
